In The Rest Cure, I explore the Victorian tradition of confining women to rest as a treatment for melancholy, isolating them from intellectual and creative pursuits. The painting features a "dying deer," a metaphor for the fragile state imposed on these women. The muted colour palette and soft brushstrokes create a dreamlike, introspective atmosphere. Through this imagery, I draw a parallel between the deer and myself, reflecting on the shared experience of vulnerability and the quiet strength it demands to die with an audience.
