ABOUT OBSIDIAN: Obsidian is a naturally occurring type of volcanic glass (igneous rock) formed by the rapid cooling of viscous lava. Though, typically occurring in jet black, obsidian can also occur in red and brown varieties when hematite (iron oxide) is present. The inclusion of tiny gas bubbles can create a golden sheen, and some may appear with dark bands or mottled yellow, grey or green. As it is a type of glass, obsidian tends to have a shiny finish.
NATURAL ORIGIN: Mexico.
DIMENSIONS: 4 cm (w) x 10 cm (h)
HANDLING AND CARE: Obsidian tends to be slightly harder than an average glass window. Avoid rapid temperature changes, exposure to harsh chemicals and prolonged exposure to intense light or strong heat. Clean regularly to prevent buildup of dirt and dust. It is safe to clean obsidian with mild soapy, lukewarm tap/lake water using a soft cloth or soft brush. Dry with a soft cloth and ensure excess water is immediately removed. Do not steam clean.
